A Christmas Carol

Spirit’s Gonna Get You

Spirit’s gonna get ya

Its Christmastime and the bells are ringing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

With all its holiday cheer

Spirit’s gonna get ya

The happiness, the children singing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

To celebrate it all year

Christmas dreams make the faces glow

On every Christmas girl and boy

By the fire, neath the mistletoe

We’re singing carols; now let’s deck the hall with joy

Don’t forget the holly

Spirit’s gonna get ya

It’s Christmastime and bells are ringing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

Spirit’s gonna get ya

With all its holiday cheer

Spirit’s gonna get ya

The happiness, the children singing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

Spirit’s gonna get ya

To celebrate it all year

Narrator: Yes…the spirit’s gonna get you. Seems like it happens to all of us around this time of year. Why, it even happened to Ebenezer Scrooge in triplicate. But I suppose that’s getting ahead of our story. Let’s begin by dropping in on Mr. Scrooge at his office, a friendly neighborhood money-lending institution called Scrooge & Marley Ltd. It was late in the afternoon, on one very special Christmas Eve…

Angels We have Heard on High

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song?

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Narrator: Old Ebenezer Scrooge didn't like anyone. No one liked him either, not even the town dogs. The only thing Scrooge cared for was money. He was so stingy, he ate watery gruel for dinner. He thought the poor could take care of themselves. During the winter, he only used one lump of coal a day to heat his office. After all, money was the only thing he could count on.

Count On It

What makes me love my money

I can count on it
what makes my dark days sunny

The money, I’ll admit

They say you can count on human kindness

That’s all trash

Just let them get close enough

And in a flash, they want my cash

I’ll count on gold and silver

That’s my recipe

Unlock my tiller

Fill ‘er up with currency

My charity stats at home for my own benefit

So, I’ll take my money

Cause I can count on it

What makes him love his money

He can count on it

What makes his dark days sunny

The king size amount of it

You better not count on Scrooge’s kindness when you’re low

Cause even at Christmas, it’s the status quo

He keeps his dough

Old Scrooge, himself is his own favorite charity

He keeps a tight lid on his popularity

If there was a miser contest

He’d be a bug hit

Cause…

He’ll take money

I’ll take money

He’ll take the money

You can count on it

You can count on it

Narrator: It seemed particularly cold and gloomy to Scrooge as he arrived home that night. It was an eerie night when, well, anything could happen. And the first sign that something was wrong, came as the unmistakable sound of chains dragging through his house, in the form of his old business partner, Marley.

Marley: You will be visited by three Spirits, this is your only chance to change your ways before it’s too late. This first Spirit will arrive with the clock chimes one. The second when it two o’clock and the third at three. For your own sake, I hope you heed what I have said. Listen to them, or you will have chains like me.

*clock chimes one*

Past: I am the Ghost of Crhistmas Past.

Back to a Christmas Past

Help us remember a night one December

It all seems so long, long ago

Let’s capture the feeling of a scene so appealing

That it sets our memories aglow

Take us back to a Christmas past

To a simpler time, when friendships would last

We could sing an old fashioned song

All snug by the fire, we’d go dreaming along

Take us back to a Christmas true

When our weary world seemed shiny and new

Help us bring back those feelings of happiness

And then make an old fashioned Christmas new again

Take us back to a Christmas true

When our weary world seemed shiny and new

Help us bring back those feelings of happiness

And then make an old fashioned Christmas new again

Let’s make an old fashioned Christmas new again

Narrator: The ghost took Scrooge to see the many shadows of things that have been, amd each scene brought back a thousand hopes, joys, and cares long, long forgotten. The spirit took Scrooge back in time to the boarding school where his father had sent him when he was a boy. His father had not allowed him to come home, not even on Christmas. Scrooge watched himself as a boy in the school, listening to the sounds of frivolity in the background...friends that would never be his.

Here We Come A Caroling

Here we come a-caroling
Among the leaves so green,
Here we come a-wand'ring
So fair to be seen.

Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

We are not daily beggers
That beg from door to door,
But we are neighbors' children
Whom you have seen before

Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

Winter Wonderland

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.
Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.
When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way

Bells on bobtail ring'
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight!

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song;

Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! You'll take the lead.

Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Narrator: Next, the spirit took Scrooge to his first job, as a young clerk at Mr. Fezziwig's. Scrooge could see himself as a young man dancing at Mr. Fezziwig's Christmas party. He smiled as he remembered how good Mr. Fezziwig had been to him, then frowned to think how badly he was treating his own clerk, Bob Cratchit.

Holiday Hoedown

Get out the fiddle

Get out the bow

Get out the old banjo

We’re fixing to have some fun and sing a song

Pick out a partner

Pick out a friend

Pick anyone you know

Gonna dance and sing out strong

So you can sing along

It’s a holiday, holiday hoedown

Having a hoedown round the Christmas tree

Just a holiday, holiday hoedown

What a Christmas jamboree

Get out the holly

Get out the tree

Get out the mistletoe

Get ready for some hospitality

We’re gonna sing now

We’re gonna dance

Kick off your shoes, let’s go

Take a down home melody

And sing in harmony

It’s a holiday, holiday hoedown

Having a hoedown round the Christmas tree

Just a holiday, holiday hoedown

What a Christmas jamboree

Now let’s all form a circle

And stomp down on the floor

Now clap your hands so hard, you make them sore

Circle to the right now

Til you come back home once more

Then we’ll sing it out the door

Just like we did before

It’s a holiday, holiday hoedown

Having a hoedown round the Christmas tree

Just a holiday, holiday hoedown

What a Christmas jamboree

It’s a holiday, holiday hoedown

Having a hoedown round the Christmas tree

Just a holiday, holiday hoedown

What a Christmas jamboree

Jingle Bell Rock

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air.

What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell rock

Deck the Hall

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the ancient Yule tide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the blazing Yule before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Follow me in merry measure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
While I tell of Yule tide treasure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Scrooge: Spirit! What a fool I was!"

Narrator: Awaking with a jolt, Scrooge looks around, surprised to be in bed. The sound of chimes fills the air; reminding him that a new Spirit would be coming near. The Spirit of Christmas Present arrived, to show Scrooge just what he was missing on this Christmas Eve.

*chimes two*

Present: I am the Ghost of Christmas Present

That’s the Way it is

Hang on, Scrooge, we’re taking a ride

To see what we can see

You don’t need money, you should like that

This entire trip is free

All over town, the chimneys smoke

The sires all blazing away

And people showing love to one and all

They’re celebrating the day

Now you don’t have to be a whiz

To know that’s the way it is

That’s the way it is, Mister Scrooge

You can see it all right here today

You’ve been on your own

Now you’ve got to be shown

Ebenezer, hear me say

That’s the way it is

Now nephew Fred is having a back

Its Christmas afternoon

Everyone came to have some fun

Except the old tycoon

So do you suppose that Fred is mad

Because your point of view

For being rich, but having no fun

He just feels sorry for you

Now you don’t have to be a whiz

To know that’s the way it is

That’s the way it is, Mister Scrooge

You can see it all right here today

You’ve been on your own

Now you’ve got to be shown

Ebenezer, hear me say

That’s the way it is, Mister Scrooge

You can see it all right here today

You’ve been on your own

Now you’ve got to be shown

Ebenezer, hear me say

That’s the way it is

Narrator: First, the spirit took Scrooge to his nephew's home. Fred had invited his Uncle to come and join in on the festivities, but Scrooge had only uttered two simple words.

Scrooge: Bah, humbug.

Narrartor: Despite his Uncle's cry, Fred made sure to go out of his way to invite him once again. Scrooge, watched as his family celebrated the holiday...without him.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Savior
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

From God our Heavenly Father
A blessed Angel came;
And unto certain Shepherds
Brought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

And when they came to Bethlehem
Where our dear Savior lay,
They found Him in a manger,
Where oxen feed on hay;
His Mother Mary kneeling down,
Unto the Lord did pray.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Narrator: Next, the spirit took Scrooge to Bob Cratchit's humble home. Scrooge saw that Bob's child, Tiny Tim, was crippled and ille. Yet the boy was so sweet and cheerful. The Cratchits' Christmas dinner was only a small goose. But, oh! how merry they all were. After dinner, Cratchit made a Christmas toast.

Cratchit: To Mr. Scrooge. Long life to him!

Tim: Bless us all!

Narrator: Scrooge bowed his head in awe and shame. How much love was in a home, where it overshined all the pain.

We Got Love

Sometimes I ask myself if there is one road to happiness

And does it lead to something that is real

I’ve watched as others build their own illusions of success

But then I look inside

And following my Guide

I find my real treasure in what I feel

Cause we got love

We got love, love

No matter what the load is

Love will see us through

We got love

We got love, love

There’s always one to turn to

Cause we got love

But once or twice I’ve wondered can I hold on one more day

Sometimes I feel life’s pulling me apart

It doesn’t seem quite fair that we should struggle on, this way

But then, I must confess

Of all that I possess

The one thing that matters is in my heart

Cause we got love

We got love, love

No matter what the load is

Love will see us through

We got love

We got love, love

And I’ll be there beside you

I’ll be there to guide you

No one can divide you

Cause we got love

Yes, we got love

Narrator: Scrooge realized that Tiny Tim, the youngest of the Cratchit clan, was looking pale and thin. The Spirit of Christmas Present said that Tim would die, unless they found money to get him healed. He didn’t seem to understand how something like this could happen to someone so frail. How could the Spirit of Christmas Present show him something so cruel?

Where are you Christmas

Where are you Christmas
Why can't I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can't I hear music play

My world is changing
I'm rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I'm not the same one
See what the time's done
Is that why you have let me go

Christmas is here
Everywhere, oh
Christmas is here
If you care, oh
If there is love in your heart and your mind
You will feel like Christmas all the time

I feel you Christmas
I know I've found you
You never fade away
The joy of Christmas
Stays here inside us
Fills each and every heart with love

Where are you Christmas
Fill your heart with love

Spirit of Christmas Present: Remember, Scrooge, there’s never enough time to do all that you want – and suddenly it’s too late…

*chimes three*

Narrator: The Spirit of Christmas Future presented Scrooge with a different experience altogether. He was a dark, faceless Phantom, shrouded in black and scattering gloom and mystery wherever he walked. By now, Scrooge was anxious to make the most of his time in the Spirit world, and followed him willingly, though the Phantom never spoke a word. Back at the Cratchit house, they found a small vacant seat by the fireplace, and a crutch without an owner, carefully preserved. As they travelled along, Scrooge would plead with the Phantom for an answer: “Are these the shadows of things that will be, or things that may be?” but he received no answer…

Shadows Yet to Be

Fulfilling your darkest destiny

The phantom strikes a chord of mystery

From shadows yet to be

A man is gone, and some are amused

Passionless feelings greeted the news

Businessman 1: I don’t know much about it, either way. I only know he’s dead.

Businessman 2: I thought he’d never die.

Businessman 3: What has he done with his money?

Businessman 2: I haven’t heard. Left it to his company, I suppose.

Businessman 1: He hasn’t left it to me, that’s all I know.

Businessman 2: It’s probably going to be a very cheap funeral. I don’t know anyone going to it. Suppose we get a group together and volunteer?

Businessman 3: I don’t mind going if lunch is provided.

The dark night brings scavengers and thieves

There’s no one left, there’s no one to grieve

Thief 1: Every person has a right to take care of themselves. He always did.

Thief 2: That’s for sure. Nobody did more than him.

Thief 3: So who’s the wiser?

Thief 1: Not a dead man, I suppose.

Thief 2: And if he wanted to keep his things after he was dead, why didn’t he have someone around to look after them instead of just lying there all alone?

Thief 3: Truer words were never spoken. It’s a judgment on him, that’s what it is.

Thief 1: Then let’s get on with it. He won’t need any warm clothes where he is going…

Fulfilling your darkest destiny

The phantom strikes a chord of mystery

From shadows yet to be

Narrator: All around them, Scrooge saw his neighbors reaction to his death. Heard what they truly thought about him.

Scrooge: I've been such a mean man. Spirit, tell me it is not too late. I can change. Give me a second chance!

You’re a Mean One, Mr. Scrooge

You're a mean one, Mr. Scrooge
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel,
Mr. Scrooge

You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel.

You're a monster, Mr. Scrooge
Your heart's an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders.
You've got garlic in your soul, Mr. Scrooge

I wouldn't touch you with a
Thirty-nine and a half foot pole.

You're a vile one, Mr. Scrooge
You have termites in your smile,
You have all the tender sweetness of a seasick crocodile,
Mr. Scrooge

Given the choice between the two of you,
I'd take the seasick crocodile.

You're a foul one, Mr. Scrooge
You're a nasty wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks.
Your soul is full of gunk,
Mr. Scrooge

The three best words that best describe you,
Are as follows, and I quote"
Stink!
Stank!
Stunk!

You're a rotter Mr. Scrooge
You're the king of sinful sots
Your heart's a dead tomato squashed with moldy purple spots
Mr. Scrooge

Your soul is an appalling dump heap
Overflowing with the most disgraceful
Assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.

You nauseate me, Mr. Scrooge
With a nauseous super nos
You're a crooked jerky jockey and,
You drive a crooked horse
Mr. Scrooge

You're a three-decker sauerkraut
And toadstool sandwich,
With arsenic sauce!

*chimes eight*

Scrooge: Where am I? It’s my own room. And I’m alive. Oh, thank you, Jacob Marley. I’ve still got a chance to change… But I don’t know what to do first. I feel as light as a feather, as happy as a school boy. Wait! … It’s Christmas. And I think I know some people who’ll never forget this day.

O Come all Ye Faithful

O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

O Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God's holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

On Christmas Morning

There’s a special glow on Christmas morning

There’s a feeling down deep inside

On this bright new day, it’s so great to be alive

It’s a magic time, a shining moment

When all hearts seem to beat as one

Like a time of old, but a time we’ve just begun

The simple things are the best

After all, when Christmas is in the air

The laughter, the singing, the fire so bright

Are just reflections of the love we share

Let the bells ring out on Christmas morning

It’s a newborn day, bring out the sun

Let the music ring, open up and sing

Christmas morning’s for everyone

The simple things are the best

After all, when Christmas is in the air

The laughter, the singing, the fire so bright

Are just reflections of the love we share

Let the bells ring out on Christmas morning

It’s a newborn day, bring out the sun

Let the music ring, open up and sing

Christmas morning’s for everyone

Narrator: Old Scrooge was beside himself with delight. He hurried off to find the grocer and the toy shop owner to anonymously send a lavish dinner and gifts to the Cratchit family. He sought out two gentlemen of charity and insisted on making a donation large enough to cover what he called “many back payments”. He even managed to stop in at his nephew Fred’s Christmas party for a joyous Holiday celebration.

O Holy Night

O Holy Night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth

Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees O hear the angels voices.
O night divine O night when Christ was born
O night divine, O night, O night divine.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.

So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.

The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.

Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
O night divine, O night, O night divine

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Hark the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Narrator: Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and more. And to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good of a friend, as good of a boss, and as good of a person as anyone could imagine. And it was always said of him that he knew how to celebrate Christmas well, if anyone alive did. May that truly be said of all of us.

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "

The happiness, the children singing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

We’re singing carols; now let’s deck the hall with joy

Don’t forget the holly

Spirit’s gonna get ya

It’s Christmastime and bells are ringing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

Spirit’s gonna get ya

With all its holiday cheer

Spirit’s gonna get ya

The happiness, the children singing

Spirit’s gonna get ya

Spirit’s gonna get ya

To celebrate it all year

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad
Prospero año y Felicidad.

Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad
Feliz Navidad
Prospero año y Felicidad.

I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
From the bottom of my heart.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some, so bring some out here

We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
